Program "Water Supply and Sewerage"

About the "Water Supply and Sewerage" program

The program combines civil engineering techniques with creative and ecological solutions to create a balanced, clean, and safe living environment for everyone. Students are prepared in two tracks – "Water Treatment" and "Water and Sewerage Networks and Facilities".

In this course of study, you will learn about:

  • water management and conservation methods;
  • innovations in W&S systems;
  • technologies for the engineering water cycle;
  • opportunities for digitalization and circular economy in the water sector.

What will you learn?

  • You will train in modern laboratories with the latest equipment to apply what you have learned in practice.
  • You will gain knowledge from professors with active practices, who will bring you into the real world of water problems and solutions.
  • You will have the opportunity to work on Bulgarian and international projects, gaining valuable experience from leading experts.

The "Water Supply and Sewerage" program is your chance to build a successful career in a dynamic and in-demand sector.

Enroll and become part of the future of water!

Professional Skills

The program produces highly qualified civil engineers capable of executing a full engineering cycle - from management, design, and construction to operation, maintenance, and research of water supply and sewerage systems, including treatment plants.

CAREER PROSPECTS

With a high level of preparation, W&S engineers have a wide range of opportunities – working in established national and international companies, state, municipal, and research institutions. Many W&S engineers develop successful businesses of their own, actively linking public interest with nature conservation.

Educational Qualification Degree

Program

The program offers the following forms of study for obtaining the "Master's" educational qualification degree with the professional qualification "Civil Engineer in Water Supply and Sewerage":
  • Full-time form of study – 5 years (10 semesters);
  • Part-time form of study – 5.5 years (11 semesters).

The training meets the conditions specified in the Ordinance on State Requirements for acquiring higher education in the "Master's" degree in specialties from the regulated profession "Engineer in Investment Design" (State Gazette, No. 96/2016).

From the 4th year, students choose one of two specializations: "W&S Networks and Facilities" or "Water Treatment". The training in both specializations is interactive and practically oriented.

Basic structural engineering disciplines and specialized disciplines such as hydraulics, W&S pumps and pumping stations, design and operation of W&S networks and facilities, and treatment plants for drinking and wastewater; building W&S systems, etc., are studied. Along with classroom activities, numerous internships are conducted in established construction, design, commercial firms, and utility companies. Practical training includes visits to:

  • modern drinking and wastewater treatment plants;
  • industrial sites with specific building installations for water supply, sewerage, and fire protection;
  • waste ecological treatment enterprises;
  • high-tech plants for W&S components.

Graduates receive a diploma for the "Master's" degree with the professional qualification "Civil Engineer in Water Supply and Sewerage," which allows for the acquisition of legal capacity for independent design in the "Water Supply and Sewerage" section at the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design. Having a "Master's" diploma opens opportunities for a scientific career in a doctoral program.
