"Urbanism" Program
Become an Expert in Urbanism!
The Master's program in "Urbanism" is designed as a continuation and upgrade for graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Urbanism. It is primarily intended for those who have successfully completed the undergraduate level. Under certain conditions, the program is also open to other specialists involved in the planning and construction of the human environment – architects, engineers, geographers, economists, lawyers, sociologists, etc.
The program is taught by a team of highly qualified lecturers from UACEG who have undergone specialized training in European universities. Prominent professionals and academics from Bulgaria and Europe also participate as adjunct and guest lecturers.
The curriculum is developed on a modular principle and implements the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) and quality control. In accordance with the requirements of leading international professional and academic organizations, the program develops knowledge in: the history of urbanism as a complex science and profession; the nature, goals, theory, and methods of urbanism; cultural differences in urban planning at European and global levels; the development of natural and cultural values, the impact of human activity on the environment, and the principles of sustainable development; the political, institutional, and legislative context of urban practice; mechanisms for implementing urban policy; and the relationship between urbanism and other types of planning.
Professional Skills
The training provides a solid foundation in the field of urbanism, developing skills for urban systems analysis, environmental impact assessment, the development of sustainable development strategies, and the design of urban spaces. You will gain knowledge of the history, theory, and practice of urbanism, as well as the relevant legislative and institutional frameworks.
PROFESSIONAL REALIZATION
Graduates in Urbanism can pursue careers in areas such as city and municipal management, investment planning, strategic planning, landscape planning, environmental protection, and infrastructure design and development.

The program is designed for graduates with Bachelor's or Master's degrees from various fields such as architecture, urban planning, spatial planning, and other related areas who wish to specialize in Urbanism. This program will provide you with new knowledge and skills to advance your professional development.
Admission Requirements
Candidates must have graduated from the following programs:
- Students who have completed a Bachelor's degree in "Urbanism" in Bulgaria, as well as international students with degrees in "Urbanism", "Urban Planning", or "Spatial Planning";
- Students who have completed a Master's degree in "Architecture" in Bulgaria or abroad;
- Students who have completed a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in engineering specialties at UACEG;
- Students who have completed engineering degrees at other higher education institutions in Bulgaria or abroad that are related to the specialties at UACEG. In this case, the Head of the Department of Urban Planning determines eligibility based on the previous higher education degree.
Note: Legal design capacity within the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria (CAB) is granted only to graduates whose previous education was a Bachelor's in "Urbanism" or a Master's in "Architecture".
Program Structure
Duration: three semesters (two semesters of coursework and one semester dedicated to the Master's thesis).
Intake: Winter semester
The third semester is dedicated to the development and defense of a Master's thesis to obtain the educational-and-qualification degree "Master of Science".
