About the "Construction Project Management" Program

The Master's program in "Construction Project Management" is designed for graduates with Bachelor's or Master's degrees in civil engineering, architecture, geodesy, law, and economics. You will acquire in-depth knowledge in areas such as financial management, risk management, contractual relations, and more. You will learn to plan, organize, and control complex construction projects while adhering to deadlines and budgets.

The program was developed by the Department of Construction Organization and Economics at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (UACEG) in collaboration with the Project Management Institute (PMI) – Bulgaria Chapter.

During your studies, you will deepen your knowledge in key project management areas, including:

  • Management Foundations: Familiarization with modern standards and project management methodologies to successfully lead every phase of a project's lifecycle.
  • Finance and Risks: Learning to plan budgets, manage cash flows, and identify/manage potential risks to ensure project success.
  • Technology and Sustainability: Introduction to the latest construction technologies and the application of sustainable construction principles in practice.
  • Human Resources and Contracts: Developing skills for effective team management, negotiation, and contracting.
  • Specialized Areas: Opportunities to specialize in infrastructure projects, historical building management, and project management during natural disasters.

Professional Skills

To acquire advanced practical skills for successful planning, execution, monitoring, and control, the program includes training in specialized project management software such as PRIMAVERA, WorkStream, and Microsoft Project. Graduates will gain the expertise to effectively identify, organize, and manage activities and resources required for construction investment projects within time and budget constraints.

PROFESSIONAL REALIZATION

The program prepares specialists for roles as managers, experts, and project management consultants in all sectors of the economy, public and private sectors, NGOs, higher education institutions, and research institutes. Career opportunities span the fields of construction, regional development, transport, and environmental protection.

Construction Management Professionals

If you have graduated in civil engineering, architecture, economics, or another related field and want to build a career in the dynamic environment of the construction industry, then this Master's program is exactly for you!

Admission Requirements

The program is open to individuals with a degree in programs from Field 3 "Social, Economic, and Legal Sciences" and Field 5 "Technical Sciences."

State-funded spots are available for candidates with a Bachelor's degree. Other candidates may enroll in the paid tuition form of study, subject to the Higher Education Act and fees determined by the Academic Council.

Candidates must have a Higher Education Diploma GPA not lower than "Good". For state-funded admission, ranking is based on the Bachelor's degree GPA.

International graduates must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher and undergo an official degree recognition process in accordance with state regulations for education acquired at foreign universities. Documentation for recognition should be submitted to the UACEG Academic Department at the end of the preceding academic year.

Program Structure

Duration: two semesters (one academic year), full-time. The first semester and the first half of the second semester consist of lectures and seminars in mandatory and elective disciplines. The second half of the second semester includes a mandatory internship and the development/defense of a Master’s thesis.

Depending on the student's previous major, additional training in basic engineering disciplines may be required.

Upon successful completion, students are awarded the qualification "Master of Science in Construction Project Management".
